I teach middle school, but don’t want middle school skin. Totally understandable, right? I was lucky enough that growing up, I had pretty good skin. Until I turned 21.
During my student teaching, I began breaking out with awful acne. You know, the kinds of pimples that really hurt and don’t go away? At first I attributed it to stress but did everything I could to fight it– ate clean, worked out, used random skin things that I could to help. And nothing helped. Today I want to share how I truly beat my hormonal acne– and how you can too! Although of course my skin isn’t perfect, I’m really happy with the improvement I’ve seen!First things first…
Go see a dermatologist. I know, I know. They’re expensive and kind of a pain in the butt. BUT if you can afford it, I would highly recommend going. Why? Your skin can show other things that are going on with your body, and that’s exactly what happened to me. My dermatologist determined that my acne was hormonal, and decided to run a blood test. It was then that I got diagnosed with PCOS. Sexy, right? However, if I hadn’t gone to the dermo, I wouldn’t have known and wouldn’t have started treatment. If your skin is an issue you’ve been struggling with, I would suggest talking to a professional first!
I don’t actually was my face in the morning. Washing my face more than once a day dries it out, so I’ll just rinse it with water. If I really need to, I’ll use a face wipe to get any makeup off if there’s still some from the night before (we all know that happens, am I right?). After that, I’ll use serum. I heard about serum from Lindsay and am glad that I’ve been using it. It adds moisture and helps with skin aging (yes, I’m 22 and paranoid about wrinkles). Then I slap on moisturizer (right now I’m LOVING the Clinique dramatically different lotion!). After the moisturizer is soaked in, I begin applying my face for the day!
I know we all get tired and sleepy and lazy but it’s so important to take care of our skin at night! In college I barely ever washed the makeup off my face and that is one of the easiest ways for your skin to age! I always wash my face when I shower at night, but if for some reason I don’t shower that night, I’ll of course use makeup wipes to get everything off. About 4-5 days a week, I use a gentle cleanser, like Aveeno or Cetaphil. The other two days, I’ll use an exfoliating cleanser. It’s a good way to rejuvenate your pores! I read in Cosmo (ha!) that it’s good to massage your cleanser into your face because it reduces puffiness, so I try to do that. At night, I like to use coconut oil for added mositure while I’m sleeping. It makes my skin so soft, and it’s cheaper than a night cream!
Once a week, I do a face mask. I talked about my holy grail product in this post, but I absolutely love the InnisFree Volcano Clay Mask brand (it’s a Korean based brand, but you an order it online!) It seriously makes my skin so clear and just feels relaxing to pamper myself!
That’s it! It’s simple and easy, but really has been working! What do you do for your skin routine! Let me know below!
