I have a confession: before I moved to China, I had absolutely NO DESIRE to travel in Asia. Like, at all. Thankfully I did end up moving abroad because Asia (and China specifically) is a place that NEEDS to be on your travel bucket list. I’m so fortunate that I was able to get a lot of time off this year to travel to so many wonderful places, and that my budget allotted it (but, you guys, I’m a teacher. TRAVELING IN CHINA IS SO CHEAP!) If you’re ever in China, here are some of my places to travel to in China!
Beijing, China: The Great Wall of China
I mean, of course. This is one of the most popular places to visit in China and is definitely worth it! It has a wonderful traditional vibe to it and is definitely a must-do if you are in China. Be sure to read the whole post here!
Harbin, China: Snow and Ice Festival
I firmly believe that this should be on everybody’s bucket list. What is it? Only a snow and ice festival that will make you feel like you are actually in a real life Frozen movie. It is perfect for a weekend trip. Check the full blog post here!
Xian, China: Terracotta Warriors
You’ve probably heard about the legendary Teracotta Warriors, depicting the army of the first emperor of China. It was allegedly created in about 201 BC, and just found in 1974 (they were buried underground!) If you think about it, it’s pretty insane that those statues were under the earth for SO LONG! I was kind of “meh” about going (would it really be worth it?), but you guys, it totally was! If you are in China you definitely have to go!
Chengdu, China: Panda Reserve
I mean, why on earth WOULDN’T you want to go see adorable baby pandas? Exactly. Full post recap here!
Hong Kong: Hong Kong Disneyland
In all seriousness, Hong Kong should totally be on your travel bucket list. It’s an amazing place that is modern, trendy, and clean. However, if you’re a Disney lover, like me, you NEED to go to HKDL. Don’t worry, I wrote an entire post recap here!
Sometimes living in a city (like Shanghai) can make you feel tired, dirty, and worn out. When you feel this way, never fear! There’s an amazing little city about 2 hours by plane away from Shanghai called Guilin. Want to go biking, rock climbing, bamboo rafting and hiking? Guilin is your place!
Have you been to China? What’s on your travel bucket list?
Confession: Brittany has been my blogging crush for YEARS. I don’t even remember how I found her blog but now I am so happy to count her as one of my closest blogging friends! I’m so grateful for our friendship and how much I can really look up to her. I’m so flattered she’s over on the blog today!
So, you’re a lawyer. Sounds like a pretty cool job I know lots of people have dreamed about having (myself included.) What are your favorite parts?
Well, to be honest, I hated being a lawyer for about 3-4 years. It’s a really hard job and new associates have a lot of responsibility (aka work a ton of hours). It was exhausting. In 2014, I had the opportunity to do two areas of law that I love. Now, my favorite part is that I don’t work for a firm anymore, but directly for my client, which is called being “in-house.” I get to spend about 90% of my day researching the area of law that I think is the most fascinating and I don’t have to bill hours. It’s awesome!
You’ve been blogging for years. Literally. What has kept you around for so long?
I’m not sure really. When I was a kid I always wanted to be a writer when I grew up. My Aunt bought me a journal when I was in kindergarten. Back when livejournal was popular I discovered I could share my thoughts easier and quicker by typing them. And now, here we are!
You’re on a mission to pay off debt. What has been the most motivating to you to continue working towards this goal!
I am so sick of a chunk of my paycheck going to credit card payments. I also have six figures of law school debt thanks to interest. I am determined to get my consumer debt paid off before February of 2016 so that I can then focus on my student loans. When I graduated law school I was 24, and handed a 25 year debt payoff plan for those loans. No thanks! The thought of paying for school for longer than it took me to graduate kills me. So that’s my motivation. It’s definitely an imperfect journey that requires staying really intentional.
Share with us your favorite beauty product. Why do you love it so much?
I love this moisturizer from Clinique. I got it for free in one of their gift bags. It’s amazing, makes my skin feel fresh without getting all greasy. The small container is lasting me a long time.
Is there a quote or Bible verse that really sticks with you? What is it, and why does it inspire you?
Joshua 1:9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frighted, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” I love so much about this verse. I’ve struggled with anxiety during my life. One of the worst parts is feeling afraid that anxiety will hit at any moment. Instead of focusing on that, I focus on the fact that God wants me to be strong and courageous. He’s in control, and it’s OK that I’m not. I’ve considered getting a tattoo on this theme, but I can’t figure out where I’d want one that I could cover up for work.
