Sometimes as an expat, I get jealous. I get jealous of the of the conveniences that are available in the states and that I can’t seem to find here. One of these is those fabulous delivery services that drop off materials so you can make your own healthy, affordable meals. I was thrilled when I found out that this service was in fact available in Shanghai, and was even more excited when I had the opportunity to review it for the blog.
I enjoy cooking more and more lately, but there’s two things that set me back. First, I’m not the best cook. There are a handful of things that I make on the regular (pasta, chicken tacos, and artichoke onion wraps), but other than that I’m not the most creative.
The second thing that holds me back is being able to get materials easily in Shanghai. There are a few specific shops I go to, but sometimes they’re out of the way from where I live which just makes it inconvenient.
All of the materials came in a small black box with everything labeled and directions included. I opted for the chocolate walnut pancakes and the Italian chicken with cheeses dishes.
I’ll be honest, I made the pancakes as a grading-and-watching Scandal snack the day that the package came #teacherlife.
-This is a relatively cheap way to eat healthy, home cooked meals. The pancakes were $6 and the chicken was $8 (delivered!)
-You don’t have to worry about wasting food or going out and buying food for your meal– it is delivered right to you! This is really great for me, because I live alone and only cook for one #thesinglelife
-Since I live in China and don’t often eat Chinese food (I know, I know), I loved that there were Western options.
-The directions are in Chinese. Although it was easy for me to figure out, it was a bit frustrating because I wasn’t expecting that
-The chicken breast was a bit small in my opinion
Overall, I would use XinWei Cook again and found it to be an enjoyable way to make a healthy meal.
Have you ever used a service like this before? What did you like about it?
I was given two free meals for the opportunity to review this product. All opinions are, as always, my own.
