We live in a life that is fast paced, casual, and dare I say super convenient. In my daily life, I take uber so I don’t have to wait for a cab, get my groceries ordered online and delivered right by my house, and do everything I can to streamline my life (I mean, who doesn’t). Not only is life fast paced, but so is dating; I can meet people from my couch! But in this fast paced dating culture, have we forgotten basic human decency and etiquette when it comes to dating?
When I make plans with someone , I follow through (unless there are extenuating circumstances, of course!). If it’s a close friend or a guy I’ve just met, everyone deserves that courtesy. Are we so busy in our lives we forget that there is somebody behind the screen?
Being single is hard. Being in a relationship is hard (I think? It’s been years, ha). Interacting with people is difficult. It’s easy to blow people off, flake out, not text back, etc. But you guys, I think we can do better than that.
For the first time in a while, I’ve been really actively dating. I’ve been trying to meet new people and (typing this make me cringe a little, but whatever) putting myself out there. It’s not easy; in fact, when I am en route to meeting someone I’ve never met before I have literally thought to myself “I can just leave this car. I don’t have to stay. I can leave!” Nothing puts you more out of your comfort zone than meeting a complete stranger!
However, the longer I’m playing the “game”, the more I realize that people lack the decency to be honest with their feelings. Maybe it’s all a part of the allure? I’m not sure; if that’s the deal, then count me out. As I’m watching Bridget Jones in my pajamas and eating potato chips out of the bag (I’m nothing if not a cliche), I’m making a promise right now to the universe. To be a little more honest and open with how I’m feeling. To not waste anybody’s time. To never “ghost”. To give good karma and to be kind. AND TO NEVER STAND ANYONE UP.
Do you think people have forgotten basic etiquette in dating?
PS- Don’t piss off a girl with a blog 😉
