I’m genuinely looking forward to April because I’m ready for the weather to warm up! As I’m writing this post and looking at this past month, I realized that I don’t take as many pictures as I used to, which kind of makes me sad. I’m going to make a better effort this month!
Also, the first quarter of the year is OVER. Can you believe it? 2017 has been good to me so far, but I feel like I haven’t really had any direction. I haven’t really been writing much (in my journal or here), haven’t really set monthly goals (which I used to be so good at!) and have been reading significantly less (pillow talk is winning over reading books. But it makes me miss reading!!) So that changes now!
March was a pretty fun month for me! Here are the highlights–
Birthday dinner on the Bund
My birthday was in September, but March was the month that my friend Jon and I FINALLY got to have dinner to celebrate my birthday! Jon took me out to a really fancy, nice dinner on the Bund (where there is the iconic view of Shanghai) and it was so nice. Fancier than I’m used to but a total blast.
Trip to Korea!
I recapped that HERE, but B and I went to Korea this month! We had a great time 🙂
St. Patrick’s Day
I had such a blast on St. Patrick’s Day! B made a pork stew and CHEESY POTATOES (!) that we ate after school and then we started drinking at like… 4:30pm? Yolo? Tara and I then took a power nap and went out. It was really fun.
Good times with friends
I’m pretty lucky that upon compiling this list I realized I had a lot of fun times with friends. Lots of brunch dates, girls nights, and just fun in general.
We’ve been doing Socratic seminars in class and when it’s nice out we go outside. I love these students so much.
There were two big roadblocks this month: B’s visa issue and my acne.
I mentioned it in last months recap, but B lost his passport while traveling a few months ago. Getting a proper work visa has been very stressful and expensive for him. I’m adding this to a hard part of the month because for a while, we were convinced he would have had to leave China for a few weeks, which would have been stressful/expensive/annoying. Luckily everything worked out, but it put a damper on the beginning of our month.
I know it might sound petty to mention acne as a huge problem this month, but as someone who barely ever had acne as a teenager (I even wrote a post about my guide to clear skin!!), it’s been extremely difficult and has wrecked my self confidence. It was getting to the point where I was crying every night over painful acne. The solution has been expensive and slightly painful acne-specific chemical peels at my dermatologist. It’s really pricy but has helped significantly. I’m honestly looking forward to going home for the summer when I can meet with my endocrinologist and hopefully come up with a better solution. Have you ever had hormonal acne? How did you deal?
This month, I got into the podcast Missing Richard Simmons. Remember the crazy workout guy from the 80s? He has disappeared from the public eye since 2014 and this podcast digs into why he has. It’s really well done and captivating, and I want to talk about it with everyone who will listen, so check it out and then tweet me your thoughts!
I mentioned this in my add it to my list post, but Big Little Lies (on HBO) is really, really good. The finale premiered last week (I’m going to watch it tonight!) and I’m sad such a well written show is over!
This month I also read two books… The Pigman by Paul Zindel and Forever, Interrupted by Taylor Jenkins Reid. I taught The Pigman in my honors English class and it’s a great coming of age story I’d recommend if you haven’t read it and like adolescent literature.
Forever Interrupted was really intense. The book centers around a couple where the husband dies a week after they get married. To be honest, I’m not sure I’d recommend it as it made me really, really sad.
April is shaping up to be great– I’m going to Hong Kong next weekend for a rugby tournament (?!) and the weather here is just gorgeous!
How was your month?
