Today’s guest post is very special because it’s brought to you by my real life/blog friend Tara! She is going to be teaching in Shanghai with me for the year! This post brought back a lot of memories for me and how I felt exactly one year ago! (Crazy!)
I’m leaving for China in about a month and it still has not hit me yet. I’ll be gone for 10 months and I’m just waiting for the panic to kick in. Hopefully it doesn’t but knowing me it will happen as I’m about to board my flight or something, or three weeks after I get there! I guess we shall see!!!
It’s an incredibly exciting opportunity though. I’ll be teaching in Shanghai with my dear friend Rachael and I could not be happier! If you haven’t read about her Shanghai adventures, WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH YOUR LIFE? hahaha. kidding. But seriously, check them out. I’ve been keeping up all year so now I’m super eager to be there personally.
I feel like I should have an insane list including everything I need to do before I leave but I don’t. Everyone keeps asking me to tell them my list and I can usually come up with three or four things (aside from packing, booking flights, etc. – the necessities). The more I thought about it, the more I realized that I’ve kind of had a mental list going on but didn’t know it. Some things I’ve already done but I’m still working on a lot of it, and working on creating a bigger list! I don’t want to forget anything!!!
Visit Lauren in Cincinnati
Go to a Toledo Mud Hens game
Go to a Detroit Tigers game with Nicole
Eat Honey BBQ wings at Buffalo Wild Wings with Ranch —Okay, so this is mostly because of everything Rachael has said about wanting ranch in China. I don’t put ranch on much but I do on Honey BBQ wings, soooooo this is happening at least one more time before I go.
Spend time with the fam –I think the hardest thing for me will be leaving my 2 year old niece, 3 year old nephew, and 4 year old nephew. These kids are my life, which leads me to my next point.
Clean off my old laptop –Reason being, I plan to give it to one of my siblings to help with staying in touch. None of them are technologically illiterate but nobody seems to have a reliable computer. I’d really love to be able to Skype with these kiddos so I want to leave my old laptop for them.
Visit Sarah, Parker, and Sean/Katie in Chicago –Photographic Evidence:
Visit Rachael –Photographic Evidence:
Finish decorating my mom’s house –My mom just bought a new house and I was her “interior decorator.” Most of the house looks amazing (not to toot my own horn or anything) but I got a new job and left it unfinished… and she hates me for it, haha (it’s really only two room that aren’t done though).
Finish redesigning blog –Making a ton of progress. Hopefully everything will be up and running relatively soon! And I plan to focus more on my exciting adventures in China and less on whatever nonsense is going on in my life; however, that stuff will inevitable make an appearance, I’m sure of it.
Read –I have two books that belong to a couple of my friends that I have had for a year. I need to finish both before I leave so I can give them back! I refuse to give them back without finishing them. This must happen!
Visit Chicago one more time
Visit Scuba and Amy in Indy
Go to Put-in-Bay
Have another garage sale –I have stuff I could really stand to get rid of. I’m not going to need a lot of things in China anyway. Why not sell it?!
I’m sure there is plenty more but oh well. This list is a work in progress. I’ll update it as I go! If you were about to leave the country for 10 months, what are some things you feel like you would absolutely have to do?
