A few weeks ago I put out a reader survey, and a few people expressed interest in wondering what I do in my free time in China. Well never fear, friends! I’m here to fill you in on my very exciting life! 😉
Friday we have a staff meeting at 2:30, and then we are off for the day. Woo! I came home from work, relaxed, cleaned my apartment (because who doesn’t like to start the weekend with a clean apartment?!) and then headed out to go shopping with my friends Kayla and Gina. We went to H&M, Zara, and Sephora. I found a pair of jeans at H&M that actually fit me (remember, I’m a lot bigger than most people here!) so I had to buy them, as well as two tops, a dress and socks. Hehe.
I was on a quest for the perfect fall lipstick, and I think (after searching for 20 minutes) I found it! I’m not going to tell you how expensive it was, because I’m a little embarrassed, but it was a total Treat Yo Self moment. We all have to do it sometimes, right?
Because finding the right shade of lipstick is very serious business.
Gotta love shopping in the cityyyyy!
After Kayla, Gina and I grabbed dinner, we decided to just head home and call it an early night. I snuggled into my new socks (Love!) and decided to download one of my old favorite books, Salem Falls, on my Kindle. Next thing I knew it was 4AM and I was 60% of the way through the book. Oops.
The comfiest socks… I’m obsessed!
Saturday I woke up and headed to tutoring. I only tutor one hour on Saturday’s, which is nice. After tutoring, Hallie, Kayla and I headed to the fabric market! If you ever come to Shanghai, please go to the fabric market. Guys, it’s so cool. You can get anything custom made, from jeans to coats to dress pants. And it’s awesome quality!
This is what the fabric market looks like
Last weekend I got measured for a new coat, and I went to pick it up! It’s red and cashmere and so gorgeous, plus it fits like a glove since it was custom made! (The cost was around $100 USD, in case you were curious, but I personally think that is a good deal for something that is made just to fit you.) After the fabric market, we went to Forever 21 (I only bought a sweater, no judgement!) then headed home. In the evening, a group of us went to dinner then out to drinks. We ended up at a bar called Arcade which was themed as, you guessed it, Arcade games! The drinks were also themed as well (I got the Princess Peach drink, don’t really remember what was in it but it was good!)
Instead of late nighting at Taco Bell, we late night with street food.
Sunday I tutored again for two hours (I miss sleeping in, but the money is too good to pass up! Just being honest…) and then went home and finished reading my book. Yes, I read an entire book this weekend. Not sure if that’s awesome or lame; I’m just going to go with awesome. In the afternoon, I headed to church. My usual church buddies couldn’t make it, and I really wasn’t sure if I wanted to go by myself (again, that’s probably silly to admit, considering I am an adult…) But I went, and I’m so so glad I did. The music was amazing and felt so Christmas-y to listen to. I loved it!
After that, I went over to Gina’s and we watched Scandal and ordered in dinner. It was an awesome weekend! There you have it, a typical weekend for me in China!
What are your typical weekends like?
